Allison L. Wood is Principal of Legal Ethics Consulting, P.C. in Chicago, Illinois. She is a lawyer for lawyers who has 20+ years of experience interpreting and working with the Professional Rules of Conduct that govern attorneys. She is unique in that she spent a decade in private practice before serving as both a Hearing Board Chair and as a Litigation Counsel with the disciplinary agency in Illinois, known as the ARDC.
Motivated by a strong desire to help lawyers, she established her firm in 2011. She defends lawyers in ARDC matters and provides counseling and representation to bar applicants in Character & Fitness matters. Her understanding of the realities of private practice coupled with the breadth of her experience with the disciplinary process, makes her a sought after expert witness in legal malpractice matters.
Ms. Wood has a passion for serving the legal profession and she spends a great deal of her time serving on boards and committees. She is a current member of the Illinois Supreme Court Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility; and of the ARDC Equal Justice Rules Committee. She is a former member of the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility, the Illinois Bar Association Professional Conduct Committee, and the Board of Governors of the Chicago Bar Association.
She is a frequent speaker and Certified Ethics MCLE Provider and because she loves teaching, she can share her enthusiasm for legal ethics in presentations that are engaging and memorable. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at two area law schools where she taught pre-trial skills and professional responsibility courses.
While she is available to provide her client-centered approach to helping all lawyers, she has a special passion for solo lawyers. This group faces the highest number of disciplinary complaints because they lack the support and resources that lawyers in law firms have. For this reason, she created an on-line course called “Solo Practice Make-Over” especially designed to help good solo lawyers stay focused and out of trouble.
